Endodontic surgery

The endodontic surgery is called periapical surgery or root-end resection or apicoectomy. After local anesthetic, a small incision is made near the gum-line and access is gained to inflamed or infected area. The tip of the root is resected, rest of the root is cleaned with an ultrasonic instrument, and a root-end or retro filling is placed to seal the canal. Finally, a few stitches are placed to close the incision and follow up appointment is made to assess and evaluate the healing.
